I am very industry involved, one evening during a collaboration event working with my pal’s chefs James Neilson (The Calgary Zoo), Rogelio Herrera (Alloy), Andrew Keen, Michele Aurigemma, I made a statement of “wouldn’t it be cool if there was a collaboration dining series just about vegetables”? I was then challenged in that moment to start something…that’s how Planted was born. Chef James Neilson from the Zoo has become a strong partner in this venture hosting the closing gala. This event is now entering into its third year. Its very exciting as every year we add new chefs, new events and make the current events fresh. This year for the opening gala on Friday, March 27th at WinSport we’ll be hosting a culinary competition and one competing chef/restaurant with will win “Best in Taste” and a $1500 cash prize.
I have had a long-time love affair with vegetables, a big-time passion with produce and growers, organically this has always been a focus for me. I am not a vegan or a vegetarian, I just love vegetables. I think it’s inspiring to see more people seek out plant-based options in their day to day lived and this event is here to show how elevated it could be.
